Atlas and Athena

atlasAudience: High school athletes and their coaches

Funding is available to provide free training in many areas we serve.

Both ATLAS and ATHENA are included in the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s National Registry of Evidenced-based Programs and Practices (NREPP). These gender-specific prevention strategies implemented through sports teams are both approved by Safe Schools. They provide boys and girls with information about healthy sports nutrition and alternatives to alcoholic beverages, illicit substances, and performance-enhancing or body-shaping drugs such as steroids or diet pills.

ATLAS (Athletes Training and Learning to Avoid Steroids) is a school-based drug prevention and health promotion program specifically designed for young male student athletes. The program is completely scripted and uses positive peer pressure to influence healthy choices among teenagers to avoid alcohol consumption, drug use, steroids and other performance enhancing drugs. The curriculum consists of ten 45-minute interactive sessions.

ATHENA (Athletes Targeting Healthy Exercise & Nutrition Alternatives) is a school-based drug prevention and health promotion program specifically designed for young female student athletes. The program is completely scripted and uses positive peer pressure to influence healthy choices among teenagers to avoid disordered eating habits, deter the use of body shaping substances, steroids and performance enhancing drugs.
